Terraced houses are the most popular
The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the way we live, especially in our homes. New dynamics had to be created when we were confined, whether by improvising new work or leisure spaces.
Between four walls, life went on. However, many realized that their homes seemed smaller and organizational changes were needed. According to the study “New Life, New Home?” by JLL consultancy, one of the greatest housing needs is for outdoor spaces..
“We realized that people want to make adjustments in their homes, due to these new times we live in, such as creating a work space, an office, improving outdoor areas, whether it’s a terrace or a simple balcony,” said Patrícia Barão, director of the residential department of JLL, who led this study.
The study had the participation of 1400 people and concluded that 51% of people wanted to create a work space and 34% wanted to modernize the outdoor space of their home.
The demand for homes with outdoor spaces also increased, with JLL recording a 24% increase in sales and rentals of homes with terraces. The platform Idealista also recorded an increase in demand for villas and apartments with large terraces and balconies. This trend was already a growing reality before the pandemic, but the confinement has intensified the importance of these spaces due to the increased time spent indoors.
